ACCESS & INCLUSION STATEMENT

At Stable Studios, we believe art and craft belongs to everyone. We are committed to creating a welcoming, safe, and accessible space for regional artists, makers, and visitors of all backgrounds, abilities, and identities. We continuously work to identify and remove barriers to participation.

Physical Access

  • Entry: Stable Studios is accessible to people who can navigate one-two (1-2) steps, or who have a support person to assist them to navigate the steps.

  • There are several entrances to the studios, with the foyer entrance having the least physical access barriers. There is one (1) small brick step and one (1) small concrete step into the foyer gallery, which has a concrete floor.

  • There is one (1) wooden step to enter the gallery space and workshop studio and another one (1) wooden step to enter into the on-site shop and second workshop studio. The workshops can be accessed via four (4) other doors; however, all have two (2) steps.

  • The foyer can be accessed by a rear door with no steps; however, this is through the accessible toilet facilities which may not be desirable for everyone.

  • Parking: The studio is adjacent to the High Street public carpark. There is no designated parking at the studio, however people with mobility needs are encouraged to drive to the foyer door and park there for evening workshops, or to be dropped off at the foyer door for daytime workshops.

  • Restrooms: We have a fully accessible, gender-neutral ambulant toilet with handrails.

  • Workspaces: Adjustable-height workbenches and desks are available in the front workshop. A range of seating, including height adjustable stools are available. Adjustable easels are also available.

  • Pathways: Hallways and studio pathways are kept wide and clear of clutter.

Sensory & Environment

  • Lighting: We utilise natural light where possible with skylights in all three (3) gallery, workshop and studio spaces. We have a variety of lamps if low lighting is required, and ceiling lights are high-quality LED with minimal flickering or noise.

  • Sound: The studio is in a quiet, secluded location and music can be played, or not, depending on the participant’s needs.

  • Relaxation: A quiet space is available for anyone needing a low-sensory environment. There are spaces to sit outside, or in another room when needed.

  • Service Animals: Fully trained assistance and service animals are welcome in all areas of the studio.

Digital & Communication

  • Website: Our digital platforms use high-contrast text and are compatible with screen readers.

  • Information: Important studio updates, safety guidelines, and event details are available in large print or digital formats upon request.

  • Staff Support: Our team is trained in disability awareness and is ready to assist with specific communication or physical setup needs.

Community & Culture

  • Inclusivity: We hold a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination based on race, gender, sexuality, age, or ability.

  • Affordability: We offer subsidized studio spaces and sliding-scale workshop fees to support regional artists experiencing financial hardship.

Stable Studios stands on the lands of the Dhudhuroa and Waywurru people who have been gathering and creating with this land for generations.

We acknowledge them as the traditional custodians and that this land has never been ceded.

We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging, who hold the memories, knowledge, traditions and cultural heritage of their people.
